Earthquake Prediction and Risk Reduction

A spate of earthquakes in the recent past, causing extensive damage has heightened the sensitivity of engineers and planners to the looming seismic risk in densely populated cities. This work presents issues, models, and methodologies arising out of the problems of predicting earthquakes and forecasting earthquake risk. The emphasis is on statistical methods which attempt to quantify the probability of an earthquake occurring within specified time, space, and magnitude windows.
